TCU currently works with a large variety of field agencies and is continually expanding this network. At a minimum, your agency must be able to provide two consecutive semesters of field instruction, allowing for each student a minimum of 16 hours per week in the field, for a total of 480 hours. What are the qualifications necessary to become a field instructor? Field instructors must be licensed bachelor’s or master’s level social workers and have a minimum of 1 year experience in the agency setting. Field instructors also must be members of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). What are the advantages of being a field instructor for TCU? Field instructors with TCU are eligible for adjunct faculty status, which includes all of the privileges (other than financial compensation) extended to other parttime members of the University. What training is required to be a field instructor? Field instructors complete a training and certification program, which consists of 9 hours of specialized training on field instruction. New field instructors complete this training during the fall and spring of the first year they are active as field instructors. These training sessions offer CEU’s, including 3 hours of Ethics content.
