All programs are free, but advance registration is required by calling 853-2236 at least five business days before each program. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Programs are led by Frank Baratta, experienced amateur astronomer and member of the Roanoke Valley Astronomical Society, www.rvasclub.org. Herschel’s Garnet Star (All) In the northeastern sky lies Mu Cephei, among the largest and reddest stars known. Join us to view this great sun and hear about its cataclysmic fate. Course No. Dates Day Time Fee 303843-A Nov. 14 Sa 6:15–8:45 p.m FREE The deadline to register is Nov. 6 OUTDOOR RECREATION Outdoor Adventure Programs New River Trail State Park Two-Day Bicycle Tour (16+) This 36-mile fun, mostly flat, slow-paced and enjoyable ride starts in Draper and finishes at Foster Falls. We will ride down the trail on Saturday, camp and ride back on Sunday. Fee includes transportation and caravan, camping equipment, dinner on Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Sunday, all bikes, safety equipment and leadership. This fun and safe class teaches the fundamentals necessary to start rolling along. Fee includes leadership, personal instruction, skateboards and all safety equipment.
